Renewable Energy

Recognising the central role of clean energy in Africa’s development, ICCDI–Africa champions the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. In a continent where nearly 600 million people lack access to electricity, we believe that energy poverty is a crisis of dignity and economics. We promote access to affordable and sustainable technologies such as solar, wind, and clean biomass solutions, while supporting community-level innovations that reduce reliance on polluting diesel generators and firewood.
Our approach is holistic. We do not just distribute solar lamps; we build an ecosystem. Our initiatives include training young entrepreneurs—specifically through the African Women Energy Entrepreneurs Framework (AWEEF)—to build profitable businesses in the clean energy sector. We raise awareness on energy efficiency and advocate for supportive policies, such as duty waivers for solar components, to scale renewable adoption. By empowering marginalized groups to lead Africa’s Just Energy Transition, we ensure that green energy creates jobs and improves health outcomes across the continent.
